Gilbert Hospital is
the first hospital in the East Valley to utilize the latest technology in
extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy in the fight against painful kidney
stones. This state of the art weapon uses high energy shock waves in a
non-invasive procedure to break down kidney stones and other renal related
issues.
The Multifunctional Lithotripsy System has been added to Gilbert
Hospital's arsenal of surgical services and is one of only three to exist
in the Valley. "This piece of equipment allows our surgical staff to
utilize a highly advanced, digital system and spares the patient prolonged
discomfort while reducing patient treatment times," stated Gilbert Hospital
CEO, David S. Wanger. "Lithotripsy capability is not new, but Gilbert
Hospital is proud to offer the newest cutting edge technology available for
our patients," said Gilbert Hospital's Director of Surgical Services, Deb
Schmoldt.
At Gilbert hospital, lithotripsy is typically performed on an
outpatient basis and the procedure usually takes less than an hour. After
the procedure, the patient is briefly sent to the recovery room and then
goes home.
